Farmer Feature - Meet Andrew Nickle

When Andrew Nickle started at Area 2 Farms in 2024, he admits he didn’t think much about where his food came from. But that quickly changed.

“One of my very first harvests on the farm was carrots,” Andrew remembers. And it brought him straight back to being a kid, visiting his grandmother’s garden in Chesapeake Bay. “I remember pulling carrots right from the dirt, brushing them off, and eating them, feeling like Bugs Bunny.” Whether it was that memory or simply the work of using his hands, the connection was immediate. He was hooked.

Andrew grew up in Northern Virginia, where soccer and basketball kept him busy and competitive. That same energy fuels his work at the farm today. “Every week brings a new goal and a new challenge. Mondays feel like game day,” he says.

Now Head Farmer, Andrew loves the hands-on work, and the connection to the community that Area 2 Farms continuously builds through events and food. “You don’t see places doing that. It builds family within the community,” he explains.

Looking ahead, Andrew is excited to bring his enthusiasm to the new Fairfax farm. “That’s what I’m most excited about right now,” he says.
