Area 2 Farms Local Organic Harvest for the Week of 06 February 2023
Baby Kale Blend
Farm fresh fiber in a personality-filled leaf! These tasty baby kale greens have become a kitchen staple and have a huge serving of fiber and vitamins A and K.
Farmer’s recommendation: Infuse Area 2 Farms herbs into a vinaigrette to top these sweet greens, or wilt them over a bed of farro, quinoa, or saffron rice. Add scallions and garlic chives with sea salt to expand their flavor potential whether you eat them raw or cooked.
Spicy Microgreens
This Area 2 Farms specialty delivers amino acids, fiber, and is rich in vitamins and antioxidants. The spice is mild and filled with flavor, and will sophisticate any meal. This blend works creatively for any meal or snack.
Farmer’s recommendation: This expert mix is delightful when served raw, and tastes good with egg-based dishes. Add some mild quinoa and sweet orange zest to make a perfectly balanced salad, or spice up a pasta or pizza dish. The versatile greens add a lot of health and even more taste to sandwiches, soups, and smoothies.
Buckwheat Shoots
Don’t let the name fool you — buckwheat shoots aren’t wheat at all. These alkalizing herbs are packed with fiber, amino acids, and nutrients like iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, manganese, and vitamins A, B, K, and C. Health-fortifying microgreens also big on flavor, these delightful shoots have hints of earth, nut, and a touch of lemon.
Farmer’s recommendation: Rinse well and pat dry to add this versatile superfood to any Area 2 Farms salad mix. Use a bold addition to lettuce wraps, to dress up an olive spread, or as a garnish to light pastas and tomato-based soups. For sandwich fans, try them on a BLT.
Scallions & Garlic Chives
Big flavor ahead! Garlic chives have the texture of a chive and the power of a garlic clove. Vitamins A and C, potassium, iron, and thiamin are inside the delicate blades. Scallions offer crunch and just the right taste of onion to complement the garlic, and bring your body some extra vitamin C and iron.
Farmer’s recommendation: Refrigerate these in damp towels. Use garlic chives as a garnish for Japanese, Korean, and Chinese cuisines. Scallions and garlic chives are versatile as a pair, and work well crisped and raw, blanched, or stir-fried.
Chamomile & Lemon Verbena
Don’t sleep on these herbs — brighten up your day with chamomile and lemon verbena. This blend makes a bright iced tea and a beautiful addition to any salad, and doesn’t cause drowsiness when raw. These herbs will calm a cold and have anti-inflammatory properties, vitamin C, iron, and essential minerals.
Farmer’s recommendation: These herbs are delicious with legumes, meat, and hearty dishes. Eat them raw for a taste bud treat, or sprinkle some on a potato or fish dish. These can delightfully garnish a wintry stew. You’ll find them good for sleep when used as a tea or in bath water, but eaten raw, these herbs are a cleansing tonic that will liven you up!
Cauliflower
It’s cute, it’s fresh, and it’s full of vitamin C! This baby cauliflower is a solid source of iron, magnesium, and vitamin B5, too. You can taste the goodness in these little trees that have a big impact!
Farmer’s recommendation: Add some chili powder to these sweeties and enjoy a little warmth with their light, earthy flavor. Delicious in a bean stew, Italian soup, roasted in a skillet, or raw with baby kale, scallions, and garlic chives.
