Our farmers will show kids how composting food scraps can enrich soil and grow healthy crops. At this event:

  • Your local librarian will read a story about George Washington Carver and his advancements to soil science

  • Our farmers will introduce composting worms, real soil, and show what happens to different plants as they break down in compost

  • Children will make and decorate their own paper “wiggling worms”

Seasonal Soil Volunteer Night

Get your hands dirty and connect with the community at our Seasonal Soil Volunteer Night! We’ll kick things off with an introduction from Tex, our soil scientist, who will share our farm’s mission and the vital role our worms play in building healthy, nutrient-dense soil. It’s a great opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at how we grow food while meeting the farmers and fellow neighbors who make this work possible.

Once we’ve gathered, we’ll dive into hands-on tasks led by our farming team, including:

  • finding cocoons in our worm bins;

  • refreshing worm bedding; and

  • bagging up our custom-composted potting mix.

We’re gathering as a community to help take care of this beautiful public space by picking up litter, removing debris, and showing some love to the park that gives us so much. All ages are welcome, and no experience is needed—we’ll provide gloves, bags, and any tools you might need.
