Area 2 Farms Local Organic Harvest for the Week of 2 January 2023
The second week of our winter season
New Year Kale
Our blend of romaine, kale, bok choy, mizuna, garlic chives, plantain, and minutina is full of Vitamins C and A to aid the immune system. Try parboiling, a fancy way to say partially boil, and top with a sweet sesame dressing.
Broccoli Microgreens
Broccoli microgreens are the earliest stage of growth in which the broccoli plant begins to produce leaves, and the first pair of real leaves have emerged. Add some crunchy broccoli microgreens nutrition to your salads, sandwiches and burgers or use them in nutrient-packed juices and smoothies. They go well with cheese and vegetable dishes and you can also garnish omelettes, poached eggs, dips or pasta sauces with broccoli microgreens for extra flavor and nutrients.
Pea Shoots
Pea shoots are the young leaves, stems, and delicate tendrils of any pea plant. They make the most fantastic and unexpected salad greens. They taste like peas but with a unique flavor that is all their own. Pea shoots are best eaten raw, where they add a sweet flavor and crisp texture. You can use the shoots in any dish as you would spinach or swiss chard.
Parsley + Sage + Rosemary
Inspired by Scarborough Far
“Parsley was comfort, sage was strength, and rosemary was love”
This herb blend hits the nail on the head for staples in your fridge this week. Refresh your palette with parsley, roast your veggies with rosemary, and season your recipes made with sage.
Combo Mint
Frosted Peppermint + Chocolate Mint
Use in drinks, add it to cocktails as a muddled herb or garnish. Use it in milkshakes and ice cream - Think Thin Mints! It is rich in vitamins A and C.
