Nineth Week of Spring Season 2024

Spring Mix Lettuce

The Spring Mix is crunchy and versatile and includes crispino and green leaf lettuce varieties. Lettuce is made up mostly of water, so eating this mix is sure to provide hydration, but it also is a great source of vitamins A and K, which promote healthy skin and bones, among other benefits. We grow our produce organically, harvesting right before we deliver it to you, so you can trust that this Spring Mix is fresh and will last for the week.

Cabbage microgreens

Cabbage microgreens are baby cabbage plants - both flavorful and nutritious. Like all microgreens, they will resemble the flavor of the mature plant, but be milder with a tender texture. Use these micros to add crunch to meals and get essential vitamins like C, A, and K, as well as fiber to support your digestion. We grow many varieties of microgreens; we love how they are both easy-to-use and nutrient-dense, offering a great addition to anyone’s weekly diet.

Mint

Mint is a bright, refreshing herb that we love for its versatility and many health benefits. Your mint julep will make a terrific tea for healthy digestion, a refreshing cocktail to wake up your senses, or a creative addition to both savory and sweet dishes. When you add mint to your diet this week, know that it is great for immunity and your brain.

Turnips

The turnips for this week are round and bright white. We harvest them when they are no bigger than a golf ball to ensure their slightly sweet flavor and crisp texture. Without the pungency of other turnip varieties, use these turnips shredded in a coleslaw or raw with a dip. Here are some more ways to prepare your turnips, and some info about the benefits of adding them into your diet.

Honey

Honey from local Virginia farms makes it into the harvest this week. Eating local honey has so many benefits - it builds immunity, helps with digestion, and acts as a natural antiseptic. Use it on top of fruit, in your tea, or to add flavor balance to sauces and dressings. Area 2 Farms delivers uber-local produce and is excited to support other local businesses and farms.
