What Happens When a Farm Crashes a Yacht Party?

We’re not exactly boat people, but when a party like the Shirlington Yacht Party pops off just a short walk from the farm, we bring the greens.

This year, we teamed up with our neighbors at Copperwood Tavern for a true farm-to-table collaboration. From side-by-side booths, we served mocktails, harvested herbs, and shared a whole lot of local flavor. With live music (yacht rock of course), a surprise dance party, and a fantastic crowd, it was the perfect summer night in The Village at Shirlington.

The Booth with the Most Plants

Our booth gave partygoers a taste of what grows just steps from their favorite local spots. Some highlights:

  • Free tastings of edible purple shamrock flowers. They are a tangy bite that surprises everyone and sparks tons of questions.

  • Harvest-your-own lavender and lemon balm, because everyone deserves to take home a little calm.

  • Lemon balm seedlings to grow at home (green thumbs or not).

  • A seed guessing game with a prize: one lucky winner scored a free week of our CSA share.

Copperwood Tavern Mocktails with Area 2 Farms’ Herbs

Right next door, Jody from Copperwood Tavern was shaking up a Strawberry Basil Porch Punch using basil straight from our farm. The basil-infused simple syrup was a crowd favorite and showed how quickly local produce can go from farm to mocktail.

If you’ve eaten at Copperwood Tavern, a local restaurant committed to sourcing the highest quality ingredients, you’ve likely tasted our greens. They use our red vein sorrel in their Farmer’s Salad and Deviled Duck Eggs, and garnish entrées with a custom Copperwood Blend of our microgreens.

Partying with our Shirlington Community

Throughout the night, our booth buzzed with curiosity and conversation. Many Shirlington locals were surprised to learn that our USDA-certified organic farm is just steps from the dog park. We talked about how we grow, what we grow, and how we share that knowledge with the community through special events, farm tours, and community education.

Events like this are what we’re all about: connecting people to good food and the farmers who grow it. If you’d like to meet your Area 2 Farms’ farmers, check out our events page. Otherwise, we’ll see you around the neighborhood!
