Asian Blend
Our freshly harvested Asian blend has layers of light flavor that’s perfect with ginger, mustard, or miso-based dressings. This balanced mix works well as a base for a salad, and brings out the flavor in this week’s wasabi arugula. Paninis, tacos, and pitas shine when this blend is added! Mix with butter and a dash of soy sauce, garlic, sea salt, and pepper if you wilt these greens to create a bed for quinoa, this week’s mushrooms, or meats. We’ve moved the farm to our Arlington, VA neighborhood to bring this healthy food to you!
Sunflower Shoots
The best memories of autumn include crunching leaves on the ground. And the best meals include the crunch of hearty sunflower shoots! These hydrating, earthy shoots are healthy for your body and soul. Take a bite of November sunshine and enjoy mood-boosting vitamins and minerals. Sunnies are crunchy and filling, and we love to add some spices or a dash of hot sauce when they’re eaten raw. Substitute these where spinach is called for, or dress up a BLT or grilled cheese sandwich.
Oregano & Thyme
It's the perfect time of year for lasagna, pastas, and pizza. This classic Italian duo of oregano and thyme are farm favorites and medicinal herbs that are grown locally. These tasteful beauties also deepen the flavor profile of sauces, meats, pestos, dips, and casseroles.
Mince leaves simply to sprinkle into any savory dish, or add to a marinade for grill or skillet-based meat dishes. We love to fold oregano into potatoes, add thyme for olive oil bases, and to flavor Italian and Mediterranean grills. These herbs help heal cuts and bruises, and are known for their anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. Mix these in with soft cheeses or dips for an extra savory flavor on your charcuterie board!
Mushrooms
Thanksgiving month is a lot of fun(gi)! As the season deepens, enjoy the delicate flavor and earthy texture that make these mushrooms perfect to sautée with olive oil or soy sauce. Pair with this week’s oregano and thyme herbs to create pasta sauces or marinades for roasting. Used medicinally, mushrooms can fortify the immune system and add fiber.
Wasabi Arugula
Turn up the tingly heat on salads, sandwiches, smoothies, and more with a new crop of wasabi arugula. This fun salad green has some heat and the signature clean tastes of arugula’s earth and wasabi. Add it to this week’s Asian blend, and add in citrus, kimchi, and carrots. Add to rice or edamame and a miso or ginger dressing. We love it blended into pestos and to add a zing to smoothies!
