This is the Last Week of the Fall Season 2023

Cabbage Patch Blend

Winter weather means textured sweaters and mellow evenings. It also means a mellow, textured blend of earthy lettuce and crunchy cabbage leaf (the highlight of this blend) in your weekly produce! Cabbage is one of the oldest recorded vegetables, cultivated for thousands of years. Throughout history, it’s been touted for its health benefits from digestion support to a baldness cure. As a cruciferous vegetable, it is loaded with Vitamin C, A, and K, as well as fiber. Our cabbage leaf is crisp and tender, so this mix is great raw; cook it for a milder flavor. We like to add warmed soft cheeses, cranberries, or pomegranate seeds to our cabbage patch blend and make a bright winter salad.

Our locally grown foods contain more taste and sniffle-busting vitamins. And we deliver to you!

Broccoli Microgreens

Not to be confused with sprouts which germinate from soaked seeds, this foodie favorite grows directly from the soil, harvested just when the first leaves emerge and well before the plant matures. Why do we pick it then? Because broccoli microgreens are up to 40 times more nutritious than full-sized broccoli. They add depth and crunch to salads, sandwiches, or anything that could use a raw, earthy, and nutritious component.  We’ve moved the farm close to home to grow specialty produce like these micros.

Basil

The sights and smells of the holidays are never better than in your kitchen. This living basil plant will sit on your countertop, give off that distinct basil aroma, and last much longer than harvested, refrigerated basil, while retaining its many nutrients. Basil is an ancient herb (part of the mint family) and has held many roles over the years - it’s been a symbol of love, as well as a cure for anything from a cold to melancholy. In cuisine, its versatility augments many flavor profiles. Fresh basil is a perfect surprise in a salad or soup, and it will brighten sauces and marinades. We like it with this week’s tomatoes for pasta sauce or a glacé caprese salad!

Tomatoes

Our tomatoes are classic tastemakers. Raw or cooked, they give that satisfying pop of flavor when your teeth break their delicate skin. Tomatoes - fruits not vegetables - are incredibly versatile. Their color comes from lycopene - a powerful antioxidant which, unlike other nutrients found in tomatoes like Vitamin C, actually gets stronger with heat. So, cooking these tomatoes is a great option to create those hearty dishes we crave when the weather is chilly. We tend to prefer these little gems raw - simply halved combined with this week’s basil and micros on top of the cabbage patch blend, drizzled with some olive oil, salt, and pepper.

Chives

Our farm-grown chives taste garlicky and serve as a comparable compliment to any dish. Part of the onion family, chives are antibacterial and great for immunity, so add them to meals for more flavor, crunch, and to fend off winter colds. Chives are often used as a garnish, but these can be chopped up and added to whatever you are cooking as an onion or garlic replacement or be used raw to add texture. We like to make chive butter and spread it on toast.
