Area 2 Farms Local Organic Harvest for the Week of June 5 2023

Citrus Blend

Crunchy romaine and leafy red lolla rossa lettuce blend beautifully with gentle sorrel for an effervescent citrus-tinged salad blend. And this big bag of greens isn’t simply a meal. Locally grown produce is also medicinal, and our Citrus Blend is a nutritional powerhouse! Lolla Rossa has magnesium, potassium, and vitamin K — heart-healthy components great for reducing blood pressure and bone growth.  Sorrel brings more than the citrus taste, it’s got vitamin C to fight infection, and vision-boosting vitamin A.

We love this blend as a salad, and our farming experts recommend it as a bed for quinoa, farro, or pilafs. Blend the crunch and tangy flavor with rich summer berries and chevre for an entreé salad. Light oil or vinegar based dressings are best.

Kohlrabi Micro

Who’s ready for pretty, tasty, disease-busting microgreens to add to a variety of dishes? We’re jazzed to bring you these colorful, turnip-and-broccoli-tasting micros that our farmers and neighbors all love! Power-packed with vitamin C, our farming experts grow your greens in our nutrient-enriched, recycled waste soil

We recommend adding these to enhance a sandwich, top our citrus blend salad, or eat on their own as a snack. Gently rinse and keep these in the fridge for a boost of hydration and crunch.

Garlic Chives

Our neighborhood farm-grown garlic chives taste like garlic and complement any dish like chives. Rich in vitamin A, iron, and riboflavin, these tasteful treats from the onion family help ward off colds. We grow your medicinal vegetables in your neighborhood, meaning we can bring the farm straight to your door every week.

Our farming experts add these to stir-fries, hearty sandwiches, atop cold bisque soups, and anywhere that needs an extra dose of earthy garlic flavor. With a little crunch, garlic chives add texture and flavor to any culinary conversation. Pair with this week’s spring onion to flavor dinner entreés.

Spring Onion

What pairs perfectly with garlic chives? Spring onions — and we do mean spring. These delicious bulbs pack in the taste and nutrition for an end-of-the-season treat. Fiber-rich and vitamin-heavy, the B and C vitamins improve mood and keep spring (or summer) sniffles at bay.

Our farmers add spring onions to meat dishes, stir-fries, and include these in a mixed kebab grill. Pair with garlic chives and gently blanch to bring out the crunch. With a garlic sauce, spring onions pair with a variety of Asian dishes. We love them on all-American burgers and hot dogs, too!

Chamomile

Chamomile flowers are part of the daisy family, and these dainty dollops don’t disappoint! This week, add these pretty blooms to the top of our citrus blend for an expert flavor pairing. Our farming experts also like to eat them as a midday tonic. Don’t forget: in tea, chamomile is calming. Eaten raw, it will wake you up!
