Showing Up for Our Neighbors in Waverly Hills
At Area 2 Farms, we believe that building a strong local food system starts with knowing and supporting the people around us. We love opportunities to connect with our community, which is why we take part in neighborhood groups like the Waverly Hills Civic Association.
Last week, we joined the association’s annual meeting at Woodstock Park in Arlington, VA. We see civic associations like this one as more than just committees; they’re grassroots groups that bring neighbors together, help strengthen local ties, and give people a voice in shaping where they live.
For us, joining these gatherings is a chance to get to know our community better, share our passion for growing good food, and stay connected to the needs and interests of the people we grow for.
What is the Waverly Hills Civic Association?
The Waverly Hills Civic Association is a volunteer-led group of neighbors in northern Arlington. After years of being inactive, local residents revived the association in 2012 to help bring the community together. They meet five times throughout the year and host fun community events regularly at Woodstock Park.
The association works to:
Keep neighbors informed about local issues
Give residents a voice in planning and development
Share news about projects and events in the area
Build stronger connections between neighbors
Advocate for the needs and interests of the community
Waverly Hills is situated between Lee Highway, Glebe Road, Utah Street, and Interstate 66.
Area 2 Farms in the Community
As a neighborhood farm, community involvement is part of our mission. We want to grow good food with and for the people around us.
That’s why we take part in local groups, events, and conversations. It helps us stay connected to what matters in our area and gives us a chance to share our love of local food.
You can often find us at:
Local farmers markets, like Bloomingdale’s weekly market in DC
Community events and festivals
Hosting our own workshops and events in the community
