Area 2 Farms Local Organic Harvest for the Week of 17 April 2023

Swiss Crunch

Rainbow Swiss Chard, Crystal Crunch Lettuce, Romaine

Spring is a time to bring forth the new, and we’ve got another new mix for you! Flavorful Swiss chard meets the crisp goodness of crystal crunch lettuce and hearty romaine. This blend boasts a huge dose of vitamin K, and lots of vitamins A, C, and E. You’ll get extra hydration, magnesium, and potassium, as well as minerals like manganese, copper, and iron.

Farmer’s recommendation: This mix is versatile and packs a big crunch, so we love it in a quinoa or farro salad or as a bed of greens for soft cheeses and beets or berries and nuts. Add sea salt, citrus, chili powder, and avocado to this mix with your favorite dressing. Briefly blanch to add into a stir fry or omelet.

Kale Microgreens

The kale-endar says it’s time for some new micros! Almost overflowing with Vitamin A, these babies score big with vitamins C, B6, E, and K. They’ve also got calcium, chlorophyll, and amino acids. Kale-lelujah!

Farmer’s recommendation: So delicious, it’s hard to believe these greens are some of the most nutritious in the farm. You’ll love them just as they are, so rinse briefly and add them to a sandwich, atop an egg dish, or zest with citrus and add to avocado toast.

Pea Shoots

Rich in vitamins C, K, and A, these shoots are more rare than pea sprouts. These vine-y shoots have a shorter shelf-life and fuller, earthier taste than most micros. Eat up and enjoy!

Farmer’s recommendation: These shoots bring texture, so try them in a club sandwich or a melted Muenster BLT. They’ll complement any dish made with horseradish or mustard-based sauces, and stir fry perfectly in a wok or skillet.

Oregano + Garlic Chives

Don’t you dare say oregaNO to these freshly harvested herbs! Garlic chives can help ward off spring sniffles with immunity boosting vitamins C, A, potassium, and iron. Oregano has natural minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

Farmer’s recommendation: These two herbs are irresistible in Italian dishes, perfect for pilafs, and make a beautiful aromatic experience for meat marinades or garnishes. Sprinkle on cream cheese to top a bagel! They taste great with our hakurei turnips.

Hakurei Turnips

Warm spice and earthy notes accompany texture for a lively, versatile vegetable grown in our nutrient enhanced farm soil. Packed with vitamins C, B6, and E, these edible roots also include fiber, potassium, and vitamins K and A.

Farmer’s recommendation: These turnips are famous for tasting best raw and fresh from the harvest. Sometimes known as the salad turnip, these special root vegetables can also be prepared on the stove in 30 minutes. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for a filling midday snack, or use creatively with miso, ginger, or orange.

Buzz Button & Lemon Verbena

Buzz buttons and lemon verbena will brighten up your dishes with flavor, aroma, and medicinal value. Buzz buttons will boost a mood, and lemon verbena has melatonin. This blend helps decrease oxidative stress, protecting muscles against damage.
Farmer’s recommendation: Buzz these ‘round your weekly meals for a spring zing! Sprinkle on a salad, eat as a raw treat, or add in to top a stir fry. You’ll find them good for sleep when used as a tea, but eaten raw, these herbs are a cleansing tonic that will give you a lively “buzz”! or try the
Buzz Button Cocktail!
